From private homeowners, to real estate professionals, lenders and commercial property managers, termites are a concern in every corner of Tucson. These little insects, have thousands or even millions of little family members and when ignored can cause thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars in damage.

SUBTERRANEAN TERMITES

IMG_0750.jpeg

Subterranean Termites are the most wide spread termite species in Tucson. As their name implies, Sub(under) and Terra(Earth) translating to under Earth, the colony lives underground. They create foraging trails from the colony in search of possible nutrition sources. Subterranean Termite in Tucson are usually noticeable by their unique "mud tubes" on foundations or coming out of the walls and ceilings. Eventually a colony WILL find your house, or whatever used to be a tree.

Does this mean they are eating all the framing out of your house? No. Because they eat any type of cellulose including; cardboard, paper and fiberboard. This means the paper on drywall and insulation, even the baseboard and door trim are all up for grabs.

Because these termites live in the ground, controlling them is fairly straight forward. All we have to do is assess where in the construction of the building are areas the Subterranean Termites can get in.

DRYWOOD TERMITES

Drywood Termites are typically found, as their name implies, in even the driest wood members of the house.

Starting near their entry points, we typically see the first signs of them in the framing and trim of windows and doors. Sometimes this can be the framing around skylights which is difficult to see as these areas are typically covered by drywall.

Warped or hollow wood and tiny wood fecal pellets coming out of the walls or ceilings are all signs we look for when identifying a Drywood termite infestation in Tucson.

The wood fecal pellets may appear like sand initially until closer inspection. For this reason it is usually overlooked and cleaned up by a homeowner or maid service. After the "mystery sand" keeps re-appearing we usually get the call that something bigger may be occurring.
